Assignment #13 : Surrealism

I chose to do this photo for my surreal photo because I was inspired by Gabriel Isak's surrealism picture of the man with a black background and black hands covering his eyes. I was very intrigued by that photo and thought it would be fun to try to recreate it. It shows surrealism because at first it looks like it is real but then you can tell that the hands must not be the object's hands because then you would see her arms reaching above her head. I chose for my model to wear a black top so that she would blend into the background, showing a mysterious aspect. I chose for the top to be off the shoulder, because then it is obvious that it would not be possible for the hands covering her eyes to be hers.

Assignment #13 : Surrealism Research

  1. Real is something you can actually see and it is normal. Surreal is something behind the real where it is a bizarre or different fantasy or way that something looks. When someone says, "That's so surreal" they mean they are seeing something they don't believe to be real. They mean that something is so shocking because it is not of the normal.
  2. An artist who's work really intrigued me is Gabriel Isak. He has many surrealism photographs that are so surreal that you sometimes can't even tell if it is or what it is your are looking at. His composition is very good and he focuses on having the focal point in the middle of the photograph. The colors are also really nice and pleasing to the eye. Each of the photograph's surrealism make the photographs look like they have a story behind each of them and there is a bigger picture if you look long enough.
